Story and Details

Arguably one of the most-famous Rolex advertisements of all-time. That's definitely one reason for Rolex reprinting it in a 2016 publication. Whether in its original form, from a 1996 magazine, or this pristine, high-quality reissue, the allure of the ad is the beautiful photograph and obvious innuendo overpowering the fact that it's a Submariner ad featuring a gilt dial Ref. 5513. This ad is among the best pre-1967 Rolex ads ever created, which come in a variety of layouts and wide-ranging copy. The formal setting and tough dive watch seem an odd pairing until you read the entire copywriting, including the last line, "Ask her. Maybe she knows." Then you start to understand how a Submariner and black tie party mix perfectly.

My favorite watch ad in the collection
I have bought a few things from Nick but this is my favorite. I have a family framer, but Nick was incredibly helpful advising on what he thought might look good and what to chat with my framer about. He never tried to upsell me, just wanted to make sure I loved the ad and was happy. The ad itself was like new. Once again, thoroughly impressed!
